. . . No reader will easily forget Applebaum's vivid accounts of the horrible human suffering of the Gulag." --"National Review Book: “The Gulag Archipelago” by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn For: People interested in learning about Soviet Russia, psychology of corruption and slave labor camps Lesson: Learn how a country falls apart when its leaders and citizens become corrupt Nearly 30 million prisoners passed through the Soviet Union's labor camps in their more than 60 years of operation. This remarkable volume, the first fully documented history of the gulag, desc Solzhenitsyn's first wife, Natalya Reshetovskaya, seems to confirm the fact that “Gulag Archipelago” consists a fictional and completely non-scientific book. In her autobiography published in 1974 under the title “Sanya: My Life with Alexandr Solzhenitsyn”, Reshetovskaya actually challenges the validity of what Solzenitsyn writes in “Gulag Archipelago”.
